is a traveling children’s museum that teaches positive life skills. Embracing the enthusiasm, excitement, curiosity and spontaneity of children, the PeaceMobile promotes peace through intergenerational play. Children and their families learn how to build peace through a fantastic array of interactive, hands-on activities and exhibits.

The concept of the PeaceMobile as well as the first expression, began in Nebraska when a group of volunteers decided to do something to enhance their community.  In the first two years, this one effort touched the lives of 52,000 children and utilized the skills of 1,400 volunteers. Since that time, several other PeaceMobiles have been developed around the world.

The PeaceMobile is complemented by the establishment of Young Peacemakers Clubs where the skills introduced by this exciting children’s museum can be practiced within the child’s support structure.  In 2002 alone, people in 58 countries were impacted by this peacemaking message.

Designated as a UNESCO project for the International Decade of the Global Movement for a Culture of Peace

Peacemaking is nurtured through the emphasis of four themes:
me.jpg (25658 bytes)
Peace for me - helps children discover the wonder and beauty within themselves, where peace begins.

Peace for us - explores daily relationships, stressing cooperation, conflict resolution and communication.

Peace for everyone - encourages justice and the possibilities for peace within groups of diverse people.

Peace for the planet - addresses planetary care and appreciation.

A unique and brilliant expression of the PeaceMobile is occurring at Graceland University where the curriculum includes praxis learning offering benefits to a large number of people.  The Methods students, those who are preparing for student teaching assignments,  meet with Ellen, PeaceMobile director, and develop lesson plans for the exhibits.  Students work in pairs and may choose to develop a plan for an existing exhibit or create a lesson plan for an entirely new exhibit. The final exam requires the students go to an elementary school and use the exhibit and lesson plan and interact with at least 50 different children.  Following the use, the Graceland students evaluate the successes and failures through a written composition.

Ottawa Valley, Ontario, Canada -

The Ottawa Valley Peace Mobile began in September 2000 and followed several successful Young Peacemakers Club school groups.  One of the most creative experiences was when a sixth grade class learned the skills and then acted as facilitators for the first grade French immersion class.

"Kids and adults love this cooperative exhibit," says Barbara of the Peace Mobile Ottawa Valley.  "This message of peace is for all people not just a few." (Directions for "Land Skis" in Celebrating Peace, Peace for Us,  page 118.)

Peace cannot be kept by force.  It can only be achieved by understanding - Albert Einstein

Civilization... is the acceptance, and the encouragement, of differences. - Mahatma Gandhi

I destroy my enemy by making him my friend. - Abraham Lincoln
